Lately I have been really interested in the successful mixture of darks and lights in interior design. I really believe a very attractive and dynamic balance can be achived and the images below only support my conclusion. For the first time in my life I have my white and gray room that I have always wanted but I find myself struggling to add enough dark elements into it. It is just really pale right now. Its a difficult room to work with anyways with the extreme slopes in my ceiling and the very odd wall texture. I have a few really great pieces that people have given to me, but the struggle still remains: how do you mix stark black into a pale and gray based room without creating visual vomit?

On another note, I have discovered this AMAZING artist by the name of Georgia Boyd Russel. It is difficult to find much about her online, but below is one of my favorites of her work. She is really a sculptor of old books and i cannot imagine the time these things take!
Her stuff really strikes a cord in the multimedia sculptor inside of me. I can't wait to start some new projects when I get back to Mass. I think I will be collecting a buch of branches for more chandeliers, but I am feeling the need to not limit myself strictly to light fixtures. I also need to squish my compulsion to throw the things I create away. Maybe that should be my 2nd new years resolution.
