I need to learn to play some sort of musical instrument. It has become alarmingly clear to me that practically everyone else who is important I know does. Except my parents. And grandparents. Ehh, I see a trend here. Natalie plays the guitar and cello. Bobby plays the violin. Twins play guitar. Jeremy plays guitar. Joy plays piano. John plays piano. Lindsay plays something I think. Harper can play songs back on the piano by hearing them once. My little cousin plays the freaking harp! What is wrong with me? I took lessons on the piano for a while but lost interest too quickly. Had a classical guitar but the strings snapped while I was tuning and sliced me open badly enough to terrify me to the instrument. I had a violin, but we just didn't get along. I don't remember ever getting a bow for it, that might be why. I always wanted a harp, but my mom said they were too big to be a realistic choice. I have since decided that I am probably not a harpist. I don't sing, so that cop-out won't work. I always had an interest in playing something, but I haven't found that instrument that really gets me excited or enthusiastic enough to go for it. Also, I feel like I am to old (at the ripe old age of twenty) to really ever be good at learning an instrument. I know this is rarely the case, but the fear is still there.
Instruments I certainly have no interest in playing:
-Anything I have to blow into.
-Guitar (too trendy for me.)
-Drums (just because it would be hard to love an entire drum set.)
-Recorder (LOL!!!)
-Piano (I want something that I can hold)
-Tuba. (need I say more?)
I am not sure yet how I feel about straddling large string instruments. It could be fun.
Maybe some people just shouldn't be musical.
